It's flu season, wash your hands!
While you were growing up, chances are someone in your family stressed the importance of washing your hands, especially before eating a meal. With so many diseases in the world today, hand-washing is often overlooked when it comes to preventative measures. It may seem like a small step, but a little bit tends to go a long way in many cases. Simply stop and remember all of the things you’ve come in contact with today – your keys, doorknobs, office or school supplies, your phone, a public restroom, etc. Although you cannot see the germs, they’re present. And if you place your hands onto your food or into your mouth, nose, or eyes, those germs are now making their way into your body. Needless to say, hand-washing is important. Here are some tips to consider this flu season:
- When washing and rinsing your hands, use warm water. Warmer temperatures are better at killing germs.
- Feel free to use whatever soap you prefer. When washing, apply a generous amount onto your hands and work into lather on both sides of the hands, your wrists, and in between your fingers. Wash around your nails, for this is the perfect hiding spot for germs. It is recommended to wash for at least 15 seconds.
- Dry your hands with a clean towel and feel free to use the towel or a paper towel to turn off the water.
- Wash your hands before coming into contact with food. Whether making it or eating it, make sure your hands are clean.
