Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to. 6 p.m.
Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Job Summary
We seek a Compounding Lab Patient Care Representative to join our team! As our Patient Care Representative, you will be answering, handling, and triaging incoming calls to the pharmacy, processing prescription refills, transcribing new phone-in prescriptions or clarifying prescriptions (if applicable). You will also be fielding basic questions, referring customers to the compounding pharmacist as needed, scheduling prescription pick up times, and assisting the compounding pharmacist in other duties as needed. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, has strong customer service and communication skills, and can uphold the highest level of confidentiality.
Main Responsibilities & Duties
- To adequately perform the primary duty, the employee must also be able to learn and perform the following related duties:
- Quickly answer the phone and efficiently solve the situation at hand through direct action or prompt transference to the appropriate staff member
- Effectively communicate with patients and healthcare personnel over the phone
- Triage incoming calls to appropriate department as applicable
- Process prescription refills
- Field basic questions from customers, and refer them to the pharmacist as needed
- Document patient communications clearly and concisely in patient charts
- Transcribe prescription orders or prescription clarifications (if applicable per State Certification)
- Provide polite, professional and respectful service in a fast paced work environment
- Comply with ethical standards.
- Perform daily business operations through accuracy of work and compliance with regulations.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, and comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment
- The ability to multitask and shift priorities, as needed
Required Education or Certifications
- High School Degree or GED
- New registration with the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy OR existing SC Pharmacy Technician License or State Certification in good standing with the SC Board of Pharmacy and PTCB

- Ability to multitask, especially in a busy work environment.
- Consistently punctual in reporting to work and to and from work breaks.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High School diploma or higher
- 1-3 years in a customer service role, retail pharmacy is a plus
- Written and verbal communication skills in English commensurate with college-level education
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License
- Demonstrate knowledge of Hawthorne Pharmacy’s compounding lab structure, standards, procedures, and protocols.
- Pass drug screening and background check.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- May require prolonged standing.
- Able to move up to 25 lbs. (small equipment, supplies, etc.)
- Must hear staff and patients on the phone and those served in person and speak clearly to communicate information to patients and staff.
- Must adequately read memos, a computer screen, registration forms, and other clinic documents.
- Ability to use general office equipment such as a computer, copy machine, telephone, etc.
