Job Summary
Hawthorne Pharmacy & Medical Equipment is looking to hire additional Pharmacy Technicians to join our exceptional teams.
We are looking for a dependable pharmacy technician to process and fill prescriptions. Under the direction of a pharmacist, you will also undertake other tasks to provide excellent customer service and ensure the pharmacy runs smoothly. As a pharmacy technician, you must be detail-oriented and reliable since the job requires a lot of responsibility. You must possess excellent communication skills and an aptitude for using computers. If you are not certified but are interested in a career in pharmacy, please note Hawthorne offers certification courses to its employees on a case-by-case basis.
Main Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide technical assistance to the pharmacist in all areas that a non-pharmacist can legally perform.
- Greet patients and provide exemplary customer service
- Assist pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy service
- Assist pharmacist in preparing prescriptions
- Sorting, stocking, and labeling medications and monitoring inventory
- Handling of legend drugs or devices, including but not limited to, receiving shipments of pharmaceuticals and stocking of shelves and bins
- Accepting written prescriptions
- Receive verbal requests from patients for available refills
- Perform initial interpretation of licensed practitioner orders
- Enter patient information into the computer, including drug allergies, accurately and efficiently
- Complying with rules, regulations, and procedures to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy, such as by sterilizing equipment and surfaces
- Deliver dispensed meds to a licensed healthcare provider
- Ring up prescriptions after a licensed pharmacist has offered counseling
- Discard expired returns according to the facility’s policies and procedures
- Compound or mix medications and/or prepare IV solutions
- Repackage bulk medications.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High School diploma or higher
- Pharmacy Technician certification, a plus
- 1-3 years in a customer service role, retail pharmacy is a plus
- Knowledge of basic math: counting, addition, and subtraction
- Written and verbal communication skills in English commensurate with college-level education
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License
- Demonstrate knowledge of Hawthorne Pharmacy’s structure, standards, procedures, and protocols.
- Pass drug screening and background check.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- May require prolonged standing.
- Able to move up to 25 lbs. (small equipment, supplies, etc.)
- Must hear staff and patients on the phone and those served in person and speak clearly to communicate information to patients and staff.
- Must adequately read memos, a computer screen, registration forms, and other clinic documents.
- Ability to use general office equipment such as a computer, copy machine, telephone, etc.
